Bhanu Pratap Deo Government Post Graduate College Kanker was established on July, 1st, 1962 to open up the doors of higher education in the tribal region of Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. The founding father of this college, His Highness Bhanu Pratap Deo nurtured a dream for the upcoming generations of Bastar region in general and Kanker in particular. He hoped to enhance the literacy, intellectual and all-round development of the students of this tribal region by means of higher education through the establishment of BPD Govt. PG College in Kanker.
